It is already long overdue to write you about the scandalous situation and attitude in the Sharm Branch of your Metro shop.
We do this herewith voicing the great dissatisfaction and disappointment of many of your consumers in Sharm.

Everybody was very happy and pleased to have a branch of your well-known and esteemed shop here in town. The 1st of March 2007 was a great day for all consumers in Sharm el Sheikh and for approx. 1 or 2 weeks the great feeling continued. But soon after this introduction period the drop in services of the shop began already, unfortunately.

The standard is getting worse and worse every day! We just want to give you some points:
- Meat and fish counter is a disaster. Badly exposed, badly cooled, meat looking gray and the fish is out in the open, OK on ice but very unhygienic!
- At times the chicken is yellowish or gray, not covered, not organized and the bad smell of it is hitting you in the face already half way through the shop.
- Cheese, sausage and meat counter: The employees are cheating the customers, most of the time putting a different kilo/price on the scale, differences are much in LE! And this is not by mistake!!!!!!!! Who gets the benefit? Metro Management?????
- All or most of the prices increased 20-30%, and this in less than 5 months!!!!
- The cooked food corner was excellent in the beginning; now the prices are up to 80% more and the quality of the food 80% down... Check your famous Metro grilled chicken, it is a screaming example!
- Shelves are sometimes 50% empty, soft drinks especially... (not a very difficult item to fill up...)
- Or the goods are opened up and spilled on the shelves (pasta).
- The pricing on the shelves does not fit to the goods, you have to search all shelve to find a price for a product.
- Imported goods disappeared from the shelves: Or they have been replaced by local products or simple did not reappear. Why can?t there be continuity in standards?
- Vegetables are a joke, it looks if they are the left-overs from your Cairo shops which have been send to Sharm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The nice choice of greens, which you had the first 2 weeks, is a distant dream. Absolutely not up to the standards you provide in other branches!
- Freshly baked bread was excellent in the beginning, now getting more expensive, smaller and the quality is declining.
- Cashiers and counter staff is extremely unfriendly, not working properly and giving their attention to the customers. They keep the customers waiting while they are having their private conversations, believing that the foreigners do not understand them. Sorry, you cannot speak badly about the people in front of you; we do have many long-term residents who perfectly understand what is being said. How does that make you feel????
- Many of the prices on the shelves are not the same once at the cashier, ALL of them of course to the disadvantage of the client, sometimes the difference is very high.
- The cashiers never give back the small change, up to 50 piasters. For example: when the amount is LE 19.70, they never give 25 piasters back, unless the client is insisting and then you get a bad comment. Of course when it is the other way around with the price for example LE 19.30. of course they are insisting of having even 50 piasters?....

Only of late we have heard about the Metro Scratch cards, which you receive when having shopped for more than LE 70.--. Most of us have never seen this card. Those who know about this had to ask for it and to insist to get it?? not very customers orientated, thank you very much!!!!
- Foreign magazines are out of date, up to 1 year old and they look used!
- The entire shop is dirty, untidy and bad smelling. It looks as if no management is
- caring.
- A lot of staff is controlling the other staff members instead of working themselves. Beside each cashier is one or two controllers, controlling whom, controlling what ??? How much extra money the shop is making off the stupid customers??????........

We could continue with this list for another 3 pages, but what it comes down to is that Metro is not taking its service serious in Sharm, considering the area as a back station, easy gained money and a dump place for expired and rotten food!
May we ask why? Why are the Sharmers treated this way? Because the way you keep your shop shows exactly what YOU think of the place. This attitude comes from the management and it reflects in the staff members. Big shame on you!

We are looking forward to your answer and we sincerely hope you will give your full attention to see that the standards of the Sharm Metro are in line with what you provide in your Cairo shops, cleanliness, willingness to serve, quality and equal pricing. Sharm super markets have been ripping off the Sharmers since a long time and we feel it is time to put a stop to this practice.

Dear Valued Customers,

Please allow me to thank you for taking the intiative to send me your letter. I personally read it and reviewed all your comments on this forum.

I was shocked to learn about your serious complaints and to realize that many of the problems have obviously been going on for a while. It was particulary surprising to me since store sales and customer numbers are very encouraging. We serve more than 1,600 customers each day in Sharm El Sheikh which had indicated to me that the store is doing well and that customers are satified with the service. Obviously, I was wrong.

On behalf of Metro, I would like to apologize to you for this poor service and for disapointing all of you. I admit we were unable to live up to your expectations.

However, I am pleased to inform you that I have personally taken some drastic measures to ensure the problems you mentioned do not happen again. The Area Manager in charge of the Sinai region has been changed and I sent Metro's Senior Operations Manager to spend one week in Sharm El Sheikh to oversee the changes and set new guidelines for service.

I invite you all to visit the store again at your earliest convenience to experience the difference. Should you have any comments or complaints, please forward them to metrofeedback@mansourgroup.com and I will make sure they are passed on to me personally.

I noticed that some of your club members are residents of Nabq. I seize this opportunity to infom you that a new Metro store will be opening in Nabq in Jaunuary, 2008. It will be bigger in size than the Sharm El Sheikh store and will carry a wider range of local and imported items.

Once again, please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience we have caused you and I look forward to seeing you all in our upcoming store opening in January.
